I generally hate writing these “About Me” pages, since I can never figure out what to say about myself. I’m a recent college graduate (class of ‘09) with a B.S. in Biological Chemistry and am currently a member of the class of 2013 at a US medical school. I have a bitingly sarcastic sense of humor and a taste for nerdy jokes, which is probably why I ended up going to schools with reputations for having socially awkward, nerdy students. Like any good Asian kid, academics is a big part of my life; I probably spend more time talking about it than I should, for lack of more interesting things to talk about.
While working in a research lab the summer after my first year of college, I discovered that I was violently allergic to rabbits. Subsequent prick tests revealed that I was equally allergic to cats and slightly less so to horses. If I ever decide to commit suicide, I think rabbit-sniffing would be an excellent way to go.
I started my webdesigning career at the age of 12 with a shabby little tribute to Sailorsaturn of Sailormoon, my favorite character at the time. I initially used MS Paint for the little graphic editing that I could muster at the time. It wasn’t until I was about 14 that I first began experimenting first with Paint Shop Pro, then with Adobe Photoshop. At 15, I bought my first domain name: KuroiTenshi.net, which I kept for about 2 years. At that point, I began to think that the name was a bit too long and hard to remember and so, purchased my current domain of LastSong.net. I now use Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for graphics editing and Notepad++ for coding.
The Domain
I really don’t have much of a story for the selection of LastSong.net as a domain name. At the time, it was more or less simply a reference to The Last Song by X Japan. I felt that it conveyed a sort of melancholy and darkness that matches my design sense. Currently, LastSong.net is registered with Domains4You.com and happily hosted with HostGator.
The Site
LastSong.net has, for many years, served as a collective and hosting domain. As I lost interest in most of the many sites I originally created, I no longer saw the point at keeping the collective open. Nonetheless, I had grown attached to my domain name, and wanted to keep it. In June of 2006, I finally decided to turn it into a blog, as it is now.
